Korean Sudoku
A downloadable game for Windows and Android
Solve Sudoku puzzles while practising Sino-Korean numerals 1-9. Core Sudoku rules apply. It's intended as a beginner's Korean learning tool.
Core Gameplay
Number & Note Input:
- Numbers: Left-click an empty cell for a 3x3 input popup (numeral display depends on settings). Click a numeral to place it.
- Notes: Right-click an empty/notes-only cell for "note mode" (distinct border colour). Click numerals in the popup to toggle notes. Main numbers clear notes in that cell.
Erasing:
- If "Live Checking" is OFF: Left-clicking a cell you've already filled will clear its main numeral.
- If "Live Checking" is ON: Left-clicking a numeral highlighted as incorrect will clear it. Correctly placed numerals are locked.
Hint System ("Hint on Click" option):
- If enabled, click a pre-filled or correctly placed numeral (if "Live Checking" is on) to highlight its row, column, and all other matching instances.
- Click the grid to dismiss hints.
Key Menu Setup Options
Numbers to Practice (Sino-Korean):
- Choose which numerals (1-9) primarily display as Sino-Korean characters (e.g., "일", "이", "삼") for pre-filled cells and in the input popup. This interacts with the "Place Arabic Numerals" option.
Live Checking (Toggle):
- ON: Instant feedback. Correct inputs lock. Incorrect inputs and direct conflicts are highlighted with distinct colours.
- OFF: No instant feedback or locking. Conflicts are highlighted based only on the current visible board state.
Mix Prefilled (Toggle):
- When a numeral is set to display as Sino-Korean, this option mixes its pre-filled instances on the board between Arabic and Korean characters for varied visual practice.
Place Arabic Numerals (Toggle):
- ON: Numerals you place in the grid will always be Arabic, even if "Numbers to Practice" designates them as Korean and they appear so in the input popup.
- OFF: Numerals you place will use the format (Arabic or Korean) configured for them in "Numbers to Practice".

I made this to help me practice Sino-Korean numbers 1-9. The focus is active use for long-term memory, not just memorisation. It might also be a fun way to learn them by deduction if you don't know them yet.
